The Food and Drug Administration is offering advice for food industry members trying to create company guidance documents to comply with FDA food safety standards.
The FDA is offering technical advice, identifying regulation conflicts and sharing insight in a five-step document available at fda.gov. The FDA recommends five steps.
- Define the scope of the guidance document.
- Establish a work group and invite experts from industry, academia and both state and federal government to participate.
- Invite the FDA to participate.
- Develop the components of the guidance document.
- Finalize the guidance.
The FDA says the process of creating such a document could take six months to a year, according to the agency's website. However, they can be made available in an incomplete state, as they will require regular updating and assessments.
