Swine Vet Center Launches New Website for Pork Industry

The Swine Vet Center, which has 15 veterinarians who are focused on pig health, has launched a new website to keep customers and the pork industry posted on its latest services, ideas and initiatives, according to a company release.

“For us, nothing will ever replace face-to-face contact with our customers, but we wanted to expand our online presence and help the pork industry develop a better understanding of who we are and our approach to swine medicine,” said Laura Bruner, DVM, a veterinarian at SVC who was actively involved with the website’s development.

The site features new veterinarian profiles and an overview of SVC’s services, as well as sections called SVC News, which includes articles written by or involving the clinic’s veterinarians. It will also features PHT+, a news feed curated by the editors of Pig Health Today.

MetaFarms Acquires Swine Management Services to Expand Services Portfolio

MetaFarms, Inc., has acquired Swine Management Services LLC (SMS) of Fremont, Neb., to expand its services portfolio, according to a company release.

SMS is an independent swine consulting company founded in 2002 by Ron Ketchem and Mark Rix, which serves producers across North America and Australia.

“With the addition of SMS and their experienced team, we’re able to consolidate and enhance our benchmarking tools,” said Chad Becker, chief executive officer, of MetaFarms. “The addition of SMS’ capabilities will give our customers the ability to better leverage the insights of our platform.”

The SMS approach leverages data to help swine producers dig deeper into their production insight to gain a competitive advantage in the ever more complex world of swine production. The Swine Smart Sow Analysis System, for instance, helps swine producers make decisions based on 25 years of historical production insight.

SMS will join MetaFarms as a wholly-owned subsidiary, while continuing to provide all its current analytic and consulting solutions to the swine industry.

“The SMS team looks forward to partnering with the MetaFarms team to bring a new level of technological sophistication to managing swine data,” said Ketchem. The partnership will allow us to continue to increase our focus on helping swine producers be more productive.

The transaction closed Sept. 30. Current SMS customers will see no disruption to their existing services and will continue to receive customer service from the SMS and MetaFarms teams. SMS will operate from its headquarters in Fremont, Neb.  Ron Ketchem will serve as general manager of SMS and Mark Rix will become director of operations for SMS.
