Beyond Meat: Sausage is on the Shelves, Now Going After Bacon

Beyond Meat is developing a plant-based product meant to mimic bacon, but according to Bloomberg, there is no launch date in sight.

In addition to the company’s burger, ground beef and sausage alternative products, Beyond Meat CEO Ethan Brown said their bacon alternative is making improvements through the development process.

Beyond Meat products can be found in more than 35,000 supermarkets, restaurants, hotels and other market channels around the world. However, Beyond Meat is meeting resistance from some large buyers.

Taco Bell and Arby’s have committed to excluding meatless meats from their restaurants. According to Bloomberg, Chipotle said it has no plans of putting Beyond Meat products on its menu. Chipotle’s CEO, Brian Niccol, has told media that imitation meat products are too processed.

Still stocks are soaring for Beyond Meat, almost 700% since it went public in early May. Company executives said in a first-quarter earnings report that they expected 2019 sales to reach $210 million. Bloomberg said the company has never turned a profit since Brown founded it in 2009.
