African swine fever in China
China, the world’s largest swine herd, is battling with the deadly African swine fever (ASF). Over the course of nearly four weeks, China has euthanized between 10,000 to 12,000 of its roughly 400 million head herd. Currently, there’s no vaccine for ASF. Dr. Liz Wagstrom, chief veterinarian of the National Pork Producers Council, talks with Chip Flory about how the disease spreads, how hogs contract the disease, and what this could mean for China.
